Which no one, but Thumper the rabbit comments on. If you think that this is going to be a Matriarchy story, it’s a bit of a disappointment that everyone seems to listen to the Great Owl, just by virtue of his gender and nothing more.Īnd then we meet Bambi, who is stunningly realistic from the moment you see him, as he struggles to find his feet literally. ![]() The first thing to know about Bambi is that the motif is about “mothers”, from the forest creatures being tended to by their mothers, who show the love and nurture familiar to the audience, as the Great Owl announces that the new Prince is born, so everyone must pay tribute. And even though I’ve grown up, and become more cynical my attitude to Bambi really hasn’t changed. One thing I adore about Bambi is that it is simply stunning the sweeping animation from the multi-plane camera, the opening into this lush forest is so beautiful it’s easy to forget it was all done by hand. Sequence directors: James Algar, Samuel Armstrong, Graham Heid, Bill Roberts, Paul Satterfield and Norman Wright
